Powering Community Resilience in Bullengarook

Each year Community Bank Gisborne & District support the important work of the Bullengarook Rural Fire Brigade (CFA). In our 2025 Autumn grant round, we provided funds for a brand new emergency generator, a vital piece of equipment that will support community safety in Bullengarook—before, during and after an emergency.

During an emergency

When disaster strikes—whether bushfire, storm, or prolonged blackout—this generator ensures the station remains a safe, operational hub for the Bullengarook community. It powers:

  • Refrigeration – safeguarding perishable food and life-saving medications (like insulin) for vulnerable residents.

  • Communications – keeping phones, radios, and internet running so we can coordinate emergency responses and stay connected to critical updates.

  • Lighting and safety – providing visibility and security for both responders and displaced community members seeking shelter.

Beyond the crisis

Even outside emergencies, the generator strengthens everyday resilience:

  • Charging medical devices—for residents reliant on oxygen machines, sleep apnoea devices, or mobility equipment.

  • Keeping devices powered—so families can stay in touch, access emergency alerts, and maintain contact with loved ones.

  • Community resilience—by reducing reliance on external support, Bullengarook becomes more self-sufficient, ensuring the town can bounce back faster after disruptions.

Better prepared; more connected

With this new generator, Bullengarook is better prepared, safer, and more connected—no matter what comes its way. By supporting the CFA, Community Bank Gisborne & District is helping ensure that when challenges arise, the community has the resources it needs to stay safe, connected and supported.

At our annual grant-giving evening in May 2025, Bullengarook CFA captain Simon Hayward thanked Community Bank Gisborne & District for our support, sharing the impact that the emergency generator will have after a tough fire season.
This isn’t just a piece of equipment—it’s a lifeline that will transform how we can prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for investing in our community’s future.
